WindowLust

Project

#windowlust.

Inspired by windows accidentally framing ordinary life into paintings of moments, this project combines the eye of the traveller as a transient observer through first-person narrative and photography.

  1. Incorporating blogs with blog articles:
  2. Creating narratives that convey fleeting moments with an awareness of the writer’s own image being reflected in the same way to others through the process itself.

Process

Using memory and fieldwork of journey, my aim was to convey the psychological whimsy of a perfect view. That views were powerful motivations, to seek out new places, but also evocative realities of homes and life unearthed through travel itself.

  1. Finding natural windows weather through nature (stone patterns), literal (windows in buildings) or through other manufactured shapes and observing the interaction of life.
  2. Takin, editing and curating photography of interest where the narrative is significant to the moment of the naturally framed world.
  3. Creating creative non-fiction to match the moment that the photograph was taken in
  4. Sharing through a further window; social media, to observe reactions and interest of the project.

Result

Four short blogs representing fleeting moments. This project will be revisited in the future, what became unveiled was the importance of windows as a focal point for historic events. The idea of who is being viewed being central to that landscape is something I wish to work more upon.

  • During Covid, I opened my Instagram platform to others to contribute. The results were highly positive with commendations that the project was helping positivity for those who were participating. I wish to develop a further blog from these photos, once the pandemic has had enough distance to bring in the element of reflection through time.
